Cowichan Valley Basket Society Fundraiser

First Chili Cookoff and Fundraiser – August  24th, 2024 4:00pm

Cowichan Valley Basket Society (CVBS) would like to invite you to our first annual fund-raising Chili Cook-off and be part of the solution to alleviate food insecurity in the Cowichan Valley.

Deciding between rent/mortgage/heat or food is an impossible choice.

Recent reports say 1 in 4 people experience food insecurity and are facing this challenge daily. At the CVBS, an average of 220 lunches have been served each day to a range of guests of all ages and backgrounds. Many are seniors on fixed income having to make a choice between eating and paying their rent. Each month over 575 hampers are given away, providing food for over 1,200 people. This is an 80% increase in demand in the last year. The demand continues to grow, and our budget and center are being stretched to meet these increased needs.
