This Thanksgiving, more of our neighbours are turning to the food bank than ever before.
Your gift can help make sure a local family has enough to eat—and maybe even something to celebrate.
“We never thought we’d have to keep coming back.”
That’s what one mom told us recently. She said that over the years, the food bank has helped her family through tough seasons—and that she thought things would get better.
But they haven’t. Not yet.
“It was always nice to know we could count on the food bank… when we couldn’t count on anything else.”
That line has stayed with me.
Because lately, I’ve heard versions of it again and again.
More people are walking through our doors than ever before. And so many are saying the same thing:
“I never expected to need this.”
Some are neighbours we’ve known for years. Others are new—friends, classmates, people who live just down the street—quietly asking if there’s enough to go around.
We want to say yes to every single one of them this Thanksgiving
No one should go hungry — especially during the holidays.
That’s why I’m writing to you today …
To invite you to help make sure your neighbours have food on the table. And maybe even something to celebrate.
Because right now?
Prices are up. More people are out of options. And our food bank is bracing for our busiest Fall and Thanksgiving yet.
If you’re in a place to help, your gift of $50, $100, $250—or whatever amount feels right—can help a family in your community get the food they need.
It could be the reason a kid goes to bed with a full tummy. Or a senior doesn’t have to choose between groceries and medicine. Or a parent can breathe just a little easier. That kind of relief… that kind of dignity… it only happens because people like you choose to care.
And I get it—this might be a tight year for you, too.
So if now isn’t the time, that’s okay. Truly.
But if it is—and you’re looking for a simple way to help someone nearby—this is one of the most direct ways to do it.
Your support will mean a neighbour gets what they need to get through the week.
Groceries on the table. A bit of relief. Maybe even something to look forward to this Thanksgiving.
It’s a small act, but it can mean the world to someone who’s struggling right now.
If you’re able to help, please send your gift before October 13 so no one in our community has to go without.
With so much gratitude,
P.S. Thanksgiving is just around the corner—and more of our neighbours are turning to food banks than ever before. If you’re in a place to give, your kindness could be the reason a family in the Cowichan Valley gets to sit down to a meal this holiday.
