Friends of the Food Bank Fundraising Gala

Cowichan Valley Basket Society warmly invites you to join us for our Friends of the Food Bank Fundraising Gala on September 23, 2026, at The Vine in Cowichan Bay.

This special evening will bring together community members, local businesses, donors, and friends who care about addressing food insecurity in the Cowichan Valley.

For many people, choosing between rent, heat, or food is an impossible choice. Recent reports show that 1 in 4 people experience food insecurity. At CVBS, we see this need every day.

Each day, we serve an average of 200 lunches to guests of all ages and backgrounds. Each month, we provide more than 720 food hampers, supporting over 1,600 people. This represents a 20% increase in demand over the past year.

CVBS has operated the Duncan Food Bank and Lunch Kitchen since 1988. Our mission is:

“Ensuring no individual or family in the Cowichan Valley goes hungry—
physically, spiritually, or emotionally.”

As demand continues to grow, CVBS is working to strengthen both our daily services and our long-term capacity. In 2022, we purchased the property next door to allow for future growth. Last year, we completed Phase 1 renovations to improve our centre and better serve our guests. Proceeds from the gala will support our food programs and contribute to the Building for the Future fund for Phase 2, a new storage building planned for 2027 that will give us the space needed to receive, sort, store, and distribute food more efficiently.

Please join us for an evening of good food, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and community connection. By attending, you are helping provide food, dignity, and hope to neighbours experiencing food insecurity in the Cowichan Valley.
