The Cowichan Valley Basket Society continues to witness a remarkable rise in the number of individuals and families receiving food hampers. In October alone, 725 food hampers were distributed, assisting 1,600 individuals. Notably, 30% of these recipients are under the age of 19, while 12% are over 60.

We are truly grateful for the support from our community as we strive to help our neighbors. However, with the increasing number of people facing food insecurity, the CVBS’s need for donations has become more urgent. The Society primarily depends on community contributions, whether monetary or food items, as it receives limited government funding to meet the significant demand for hampers. We kindly encourage you to consider making a cash donation today.

For many years, food banks like ours have requested canned goods and pantry staples, and we appreciate every contribution. However, this year, our greatest need is for financial gifts.

Would you consider sending a donation today — to help restock the shelves and support someone in Duncan this Christmas?

Your gift will help:
– Purchase larger quantities of food at more favorable prices through bulk buying-
– Replenish shelves within our community
– Ensure the continuous movement of food with the necessary trucks, tools, staff, and volunteers

Become a monthly donor

About Us

The Cowichan Valley Basket Society (CVBS) was started in 1988 by a broadly based group of Cowichan Valley residents who saw a great need for a coordinated answer to hunger in the area. CVBS is a registered charity overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Some board members are appointed by our sustaining donors, and the rest are caring members of the community that have become members of the society.

Our first premises was opened on Evans Street. From there we have made several moves but our current home on Garden Street we trust is our permanent home as we have purchased the property in 2015 and in 2022 the neighbouring property.
